Potholes adding dishonour to our honoured clean city

Let MCC officers go on padayatra to see filthy, crater-like roads

Sir,

This is to bring to the notice of the civic authorities concerned of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and the elected representatives about the pathetic condition of our once-beautiful city.

The biggest factor contributing to this state is the potholes that have plagued the city roads. The civic authorities have repeatedly failed to provide a timely and proper solution for this recurring problem.

We do not understand the reasons for this negligent attitude or the substandard and shabby work. Every year, as monsoon or heavy rains hit Mysuru, the roads become like swimming pools of filthy water.

The authorities should take a padayatra around the major roads of the city, such as in front of the Suburban Bus Stand, Hardinge Circle, Nazarbad Main Road and many other major roads that have been crippled by potholes and ditches.

The rainy season exacerbates the problem as water collects in these ditches, becoming breeding spots for mosquitoes, which cause dengue and other deadly diseases. Year after year, this menace repeats and the elected representatives of all three Assembly Constituencies of Mysuru have failed to come up with a solution.

Once India’s cleanest city, Mysuru has been falling in the rankings year by year due to such lackadaisical attitudes of the authorities.

Even today, people outside Mysuru honour our city as one of the cleanest. Let this honour remain when they visit our city. We hope the authorities will wake up from their slumber soon and take concrete steps towards addressing this issue.
