Pourakarmika dies on duty: Civic workers stage protest, demand compensation

Hunsur: A Pourakarmika died of heart attack while on duty and the civic workers, urging for compensation and security to the deceased family members, staged a protest by keeping the body of the deceased in front of the City Municipal Office in the town recently.

The deceased Pourakarmika is V. Murugesh (40). He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Murugesh was working as a Pourakarmika at Hunsur City Municipal Council under Direct Credit of Wages Scheme.

As Murugesh suffered a heart attack and died on duty, his colleagues, urging for a job to one of Murugesh’s family members and also to provide adequate compensation, staged a protest by keeping the body of Murugesh.

MLA H.P. Manjunath and City Municipal Council Project Officer Harshad R. Shariff visited the spot and told the protesters that it is the Government which has to take the decision.

They told the protesting civic workers that they would forward their request to the Government and assured of providing Rs. 50,000 from the City Municipal Council and a job to one of the family members of Murugesh.

Following the assurance, the protesters withdrew their stir.
