Power failure at Mysore Airport: Don’t put passengers lives at risk

Sir,

The news item on Mysore Airport runway lights failure last Thursday (May 26) due to a technical glitch is very much disturbing. More shocking is the fact that the standby generator too failed to come on line.

That the Chennai-Mysuru flight was kept going around for nearly an hour wasting fuel on ATC instructions too is serious.

It is a known fact that the uninterrupted power supply is essential for an airport and as such all standby power supply sources should be fit and kept ready to supply  power in case of power failure. It may be recalled that traction power supply on Mysuru-Bengaluru rail line failed sometime back for as long as two hours resulting in disruption of arrivals and departures at Mysuru Railway Station.

It is hoped that the agencies concerned at the airport will take care not to allow such contingencies putting the air passengers lives at risk.
