Mysuru/Mysore: Hunsur’s 8th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced two persons to one year jail besides imposing a fine of Rs.2.02 lakh after they were found guilty of stealing electricity.

Those sentenced are 61-year-old Chikkamadaiah of M. Kannenahalli, Hampapura hobli in H.D. Kote taluk and his son 31-year-old Basavaraju.

Chikkamadaiah and Basavaraju had illegally established a brick kiln in their land and had illegally drawn power from the electricity line passing nearby to a 5 hp submersible pump set for drawing water.

When CESC Vigilance Squad inspected the land of Chikkamadaiah, the illegal power connection to the pump set came to light following which Vigilance Squad Inspector Suraj registered a case under Section 135 (Electricity theft) and 138 (Interference with meters or works of licensee) and submitted a charge-sheet     to the Court.

Judge B. Madhusudan, who heard the arguments from both sides, found the two accused guilty of the crime and sentenced them to jail. Public Prosecutor Ajithkumar D. Hamigi argued on behalf of the Government.
