Mysuru: Arunodaya Mahila Sangha had organised a function at Nellore Shed Community Hall in front of Silk Factory here on Sunday to present Pratibha Puraskar to children of Pourakarmikas who have secured good marks in SSLC and PU examinations.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayan, former Chairman, Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission, opined that Pourakarmikas can get relieved of wielding brooms if their children get well-educated and come up in career. He commended the scholastic excellence of Pourakarmikas children braving abject poverty and advised parents to encourage their children in education. He recalled the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who studied amid all odds and went on to become a beacon for people and advised children to follow the steps of that great personality.
Journalist Rajashekar Koti, former Mayor Purushotham, MLA M.K. Somashekar, BJP leader H.V. Rajeev, RLHP Director Saraswathi, Dalit Abhivruddhi Sangha President C.P. Rangaiah and others were present.
Pratibha Puraskar was presented to Shwetha, Manasa, Hemalatha, Amrutha and Saraswathi, who had excelled in SSLC and Priya, Ashwini and Radhika for excelling in PUC. Prizes were also given to parents who had won in various games.
