New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind honoured 202 freedom fighters across the country yesterday, on the occasion of the 78th Anniversary of Quit India Day.
According to the statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President hosts an “At Home” reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, every year, on the anniversary of the Quit India Movement to honour freedom fighters.
This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the “At Home” reception could not be organised, it added. Therefore, on behalf of the President, State Governments have been requested to honour and felicitate freedom fighters with a shawl and angavastram by District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate at their homes, the statement said.
Rashtrapati Bhavan has provided angavastram and shawls to the State and UT Governments through their Resident Commissioners.
The Quit India Movement was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8, 1942, demanding an end to the British rule in India.
