Mysuru: The 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday sentenced two jail inmates to seven years imprisonment for assaulting a Police personnel and escaping from the hospital.
Those sentenced are Sunil and Satish, inmates of Mysuru Central Prisons.
The duo, along with another inmate Thimmaraju, who were serving jail term in various cases, were admitted to the Jail Ward in K.R. Hospital, following illness.
On Jan.18, 2011, they made plans to escape from the hospital. As per the plan, Thimmaraju began to act as if he was suffering from seizure (fits) and City Armed Reserve (CAR) personnel Radhakrishna, who was on duty, came inside the Jail Ward to enquire, the trio assaulted him, took away the keys of the Jail Ward, locked Radhakrishna in the Ward and fled from the hospital.
Radhakrishna, after managing to come out, lodged a complaint with Devaraja Police.
Devaraja Police, who had registered a case, arrested the trio and had submitted a charge-sheet against the three with the Court. However, Thimmaraju died while on trial. Judge Gerald Rudolf Mendonsa, who heard the case, sentenced Sunil and Satish to seven years imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs.10,000 on them.
