Mysuru/Mysore: The three-day annual Techno-Cultural Fest ‘techNIEks 2020’ of National Institute of Engineering (NIE) was inaugurated at the Diamond Jubilee Block of NIE campus in the presence of Swami Yukteshanandaji, Coordinator, Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala,  as the chief guest.

D. Sudhanva, Hon. Secretary, NIE Management Committee, was the guest of honour during the inaugural. General Secretary Arjun Purushan proposed a vote of thanks. Student Coordinator Sukesh presented an overview of the programme.

Winners of ‘Battle of Bands’ and ‘Footloose’ events

The ‘North Bound’ band from MICA College won ‘Battle of Bands,’ a national-level band competition, held as part of the Fest. Judges for the event were Ravikiran and Dr. Bharadwaj.

The dance competition, ‘Footloose’ was also held on the first day of the Fest in which Ankush won the solo category and Nivesh and Dirty feet won the duo category. Judge for the event was Gagan Somaiah.

Day-2

Kannada Day was celebrated at NIE College as  part of techNIEks. The chief guest for the event was well-known Kannada Music Director, Poornachandra Tejaswi. The event was followed by a bike rally. 

The day also featured Fashion Show with the theme for the Show as ‘Bombay Velvet.’

A live concert of Akcent, a Romanian singer-songwriter, DJ and entertainer, was an added attraction of Day-2 of the Fest. An hour-long concert concluded with his famous song “That’s My Name.”

DAY-3

The final day of the Fest featured ‘Ethnic Day’ celebrations with  students dressed in ethnic attire — There was representation from all the regions and communities of Karnataka as well as the country. Later in the evening, cultural events were held which included performance by the DJ duo ‘SPLIT.’ The final act of the day was of the renowned Punjabi singer AKULL who presented some of the Bollywood hits along with his famous song “Laal Bindi.”

PRELUDE

Sangeeth Shatranj: As a prelude to techNIEks, the College conducted ‘Sangeeth Shatranj,’ a music competition at Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Hall in  the College premises.

A total of 22 participants from many colleges across the city took part in the event. Following are the winners of various categories of the contest:

Karnatak: Ashwini (first) and M.R. Vishnu (runner-up); Hindustani: Samvatsara; Instrumental: C.V. Shruti (Violin – First) and Subramanya Prabhu (Flute – Runner); Special prize: Atri Kaushik for being the youngest participant (11 years); Percussion: Nandan Kashyap (winner) and Rohith Kashyap (runner-up).
