Pro Kabaddi 2017: Fortunegiants rout Telugu Titans

August 17, 2017

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Fortunegiants brushed aside Telugu Titans with a convincing 29-19 win at The Arena in Ahmedabad in the second match of Wednesday evening. Sachin produced another magnificent performance that saw him rack up a total of 11 points, including a Super 10.

Telugu Titans opened the scoring with a two-point do-or-die raid through Vikas in the third minute. Two quick bonus points by Gujarat and a two-point raid by Sachin, however, meant that the home sides weren’t behind for too long.

The Fortunegiants took complete control of the encounter in the 11th minute after a devastating super raid from Sachin that inflicted the first All-Out of the match on Hyderabad. They opened up a 12-point lead by the 13th minute and seemed to be toying with a Titans side short on confidence.

The fleet-footed Vinoth Kumar came on as a substitute and gave Hyderabad a new dimension in attack. Gujarat though maintained their composure on the mat and went about their business in effortless fashion to maintain their lead at the break at 20-7.

The visitors picked up their first tackle point of the night in the opening raid of the second period and managed to reduce the deficit to 10 points six minutes into the half. The hosts then decided to slow the game down and see it out, through smart tactical raids and their resolute defence.

Sachin completed his Super 10 in the 32nd minute off a do-or-die raid as Hyderabad failed to contain the dynamic youngster, who has taken on the mantle of being his team’s leading raider from skipper Sukesh Hegde.

Rahul Chaudhari tried to drag his team back into the game but Gujarat’s powerhouse defence proved to be a step too far for the Raid Machine.

The Titans ended the match with back-to-back tackle points but the damage had been done by then as it only managed to reduce the margin of their loss, which read 29-19 at full-time. It was the Titans’ seventh defeat this season in nine matches, while Gujarat picked up their sixth win in eight matches.
