Geetha Shishu Shikshana Sangha (GSSS), Mysuru, a premier education society, was founded by the great Educationist and Visionary, late Prof. B.S. Pandit, Hon. Founder-Secretary, GSSS. In his fond memory, B.S. Pandit Memorial Concert ‘Saraswati’ is organised by GSSS every year during Karthika Masam since 2019, at GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW) campus, Mysuru.
This year, GSSS is organising B.S. Pandit Memorial Concert ‘Saraswati’ at M. Govinda Rao Memorial Auditorium, GSSSIETW, KRS Road, Mysuru, on Nov. 24 and 25.
On Nov. 24 at 6.30 pm, Bharatanatyam by Priyadarshini Govind. She will be accompanied by Vid. V. Murali Sangeeth (vocal), Vid. S. Sakthivel Muruganantham (mridanga), Vid. N. Sigamani (violin) and Vid. K.R. Lokeshraj (natuvanga).
Priyadarshini is a recipient of Kalaimamani award by Government of Tamil Nadu, Nritya Choodamani bestowed by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Yuva Kala Bharati Award presented by Bharat Kalachar. Priyadarsini Govind received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by Government of India for her contribution to Bharatanatyam dance.
Vid. Murali Sangeeth, a prominent young vocalist from Thrissur, shares ‘The Hindu Sa Re Ga Ma M.S. Subbulakshmi Award in 2017 for young Karnatak vocalists’ with Shruthi Shankar Kumar from Chennai. He has obtained Post-Graduation and M.Phil degree in Music from Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady, Kerala.
Vid. Sakthivel Muruganantham is an eminent performer on mridanga, specialising in the accompaniment of classical dance, for 34 years. Sakthivel has accompanied prominent dancers at leading festivals and theatres in India and worldwide. His titles include Laya Vidhyadhara from Smt. Alarmel Valli’s Deepashika, Natya Sangeet Kala Bharathi from Bharat Kalachar, Laya Kala Vipanchee from Vipanchee Trust, Laya Kala Ratna, Laya Sironmani and Mridanga Mamani.
Vid. Sigamani, a professional violinist, has participated in most of the leading music and dance festivals in India and Abroad. He has been performing as a violin accompanist to Bharatanatyam for over 25 years. He has won awards from major music organisations including Narada Gana Sabha ‘Best Violinist’ award, ‘Nada Kala Vipanjee’ award from Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and ‘Best Violinist’ award from VDS Academy. He is an Hon. Citizen of Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
Vid. Lokeshraj is a faculty of Kalakshetra, an able teacher and has been training youngsters in order to share his knowledge with the younger generation.
On Nov. 25 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, Karnatak Vocal Concert will be given by Spoorthi Rao. She will be accompanied by Vid. H.N. Bhaskar (violin), Vid. K.V. Prasad (mridanga) and Vid. Sharath Koushik (ghata).
Spoorthi Rao, an upcoming young Karnatak vocalist, is a winner of Airtel Super Singer Junior-4, a musical reality show by Vijay TV and has performed internationally with legends like S.P. Balasubramaniam, Shankar Mahadevan, K.S. Chitra, Vijay Prakash and many others. She has been selected as an A grade artiste of All India Radio (AIR) at the age of eight.
Vid. Bhaskar is an internationally reputed young violinist, known for his emotive playing. He is an A grade violinist of AIR. He has collaborated with many musicians from other genre from all across the world. He is a talented composer and has directed numerous fusion, light music and classical albums. He is a recipient of several national awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by Government of India and Best Violinist Award from the Music Academy, Madras.
Vid. Prasad is a top rank mridanga artiste. He is a versatile percussionist who plays tabla, western drums, Congo drums, chenda and edakka. His performance in Chennai AIR concerts attracted the great M.S. Subbulakshmi with whom he had the privilege of accompanying her for 15 years. He has received Kalaimamani from the Government of Tamil Nadu, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy State Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by Government of India.
Vid. Sharath Koushik, a ghata player, is a disciple of Tumkur B. Ravishankar. A young percussionist, he has earned a place in the field of percussion playing. He has been training youngsters in order to share his knowledge with the younger generation.
