Mysuru: Prof. CDN Memorial Day was observed at Dhvanyaloka here on Apr.12. Prof C.N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, in his welcome address observed how CDN (Prof. C. D. Narasimhaiah, founder of Dhvanyaloka) was a very distinguished teacher, scholar and an influential critic with a reputation for organisational abilities as well.
CDN’s pioneering efforts in introducing American Literature as well as Commonwealth Literature besides Indian Writing in English in our University curriculum were evident in the way he had conducted hundreds of seminars and workshops, something unheard of before, he said and also fondly recalled CDN’s wish to be “a teacher in life after life.”
The CDN Memorial Lecture was delivered by Dr. Rajnath, former Professor of English at Allahabad University and reputed scholar, critic and teacher, well-known through his journal, ‘Journal of Literature and Criticism’ which he edited for 25 years with distinction.
The topic of Prof. Rajnath’s Lecture was “Colonialism, Post-colonialism and English Teaching and Research in India.” It was a scholarly presentation which offered many valuable insights into an area that is much talked about and has proved to be of extreme importance to both students and teachers today.
He was later conferred the “Prof. CDN Memorial Award” carrying a citation, shawl, memento and a cash award of Rs.10,000.
Receiving the award, Prof. Rajnath said that it was a “prestigious” award, which he would always hold “closest to his heart.” He also paid rich tributes to Prof.CDN in his thanksgiving reply.
