Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi is new Registrar of Mysore Varsity

Dr. K.M. Mahadevan is Registrar (Evaluation)

Mysuru: In a surprise move, the State Government effected two changes in the University of Mysore bringing in Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi as Registrar (Administration) in place of Prof. R. Rajanna and Dr. K.M. Mahadevan as Registrar (Evaluation) in place of Prof. J. Somashekar. Both of them took over as Registrars last evening.

According to sources in the Crawford Hall, the changes were sudden and both the incumbent Registrars Prof. Rajanna and Prof.Somashekar were surprised by the move of the State Government. However, the sources also said that since there were complaints by the students and research scholars against them, the changes were effected.

Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi was the Registrar (Evaluation) Bangalore Central University, while Dr. Mahadevan was the Director of Post Graduate Centre, Kuvempu University. The orders posting them as Registrars was passed by Higher Education Department Under-Secretary,                                                N. Veerabrahmachari.

Meanwhile, Prof. Rajanna has been reverted to his parent department which is Department of History and Prof. J. Somashekar also to his parent department, Department of Political Science.

Speaking to Star of Mysore  this morning, University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, when asked about this sudden move of replacing the Registrars, said that it was the State Government which had effected the changes and he was only implementing the orders passed by the Higher Education Department.

“As a Vice-Chancellor my only interest is to see that the University functions smoothly and for this I need the cooperation of the two important functionaries — the Registrar (Administration) and Registrar (Evaluation),”   he said.

Prof. Gandhi, also speaking to Star of Mysore here this morning said, “I am very happy that the State Government has entrusted me with the responsibility of being the Registrar of the one-hundred-year-old University. I have been involved with the University since the past 40 years — first as a student, then as a teacher, researcher and also held a few administrative posts.  I have also worked as a full-time Professor in the University of IBB, Republic of Yemen.”

Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi hails from Hagaranhally Mentikoppal, a small village near Bilikere, 35 kms from Mysuru. He has also worked as Director of College Development Council, Academic Staff College and Planning Management and Evaluation Board of University of Mysore.
