Prof. Rangappa takes charge as Indian Science Congress General President

Mysuru: Former University of Mysore and KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangapa took charge as the new Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) General President for the year 2019-20 at Kolkata yesterday.

On the occasion, many members of ISCA and renowned scientists were present to greet and wish Prof. Rangappa’s success.

He will be in charge as the General President from 1.4.2019 to  31.3.2020. At the ISCA General Body Meeting held in Manipur’s capital Imphal on 15.3.2018, Prof. Rangappa was elected General President.

The election to the General President’s post of ISCA was held earlier, which has an All India Membership base. The counting was held on Mar. 15, 2018. Then retired Professor of Organic Chemistry of University of Mysore Prof. Rangappa had been elected by a record margin of votes.

In all, 59 members cast their votes to elect the ISCA General President. Out of them two were invalid votes. All the remaining 57 votes went in favour of Prof. Rangappa. As a result, Prof. Rangappa has the unique distinction of being the first General President in the 107-year-old history of ISCA to bag hundred per cent votes.

Very distinguished scientists like Prof. U.R. Rao, Dr. Kasturirangan, Prof. C.N.R. Rao, have been General Presidents of ISCA. Now, once again a scientist from Karnataka and the first General President from Mysuru has been elected which has brought joy to people of Karnataka and Mysuru city.
