Mysuru: The Department of Studies in Mathematics, University of Mysore, Manasagangothri, has organised the Nineth ‘Prof. S. V. Keshava Hegde Memorial Endowment Lecture’ in Mathematics on Mar. 26 at Srinivasa Ramanujan Block, DoS in Mathematics, Manasagangothri. The lecture will be delivered by Prof. H. B. Walikar, former Vice-Chancellor, Karnatak University, Dharwad at 10 am. Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore (UoM) will preside.
Profile: Born in Shankakodige village in Chikamagalur on Mar.8 1922, Prof. S. V. Keshava Hegde did B.Sc., at Central College, Bengaluru and M.Sc., from Calcutta University and worked with B.L. van der Waerden, great algebraist at Zurich, Switzerland for his Ph.D.
A dedicated and conscientious teacher, loved and respected by his students and colleagues, he worked as the Principal of Yuvaraja’s College and as Registrar of UoM. He passed away in 1976 while serving as Professor and Head in the Department of Mathematics, Manasagangothri.
‘Prof. S. V. Keshava Hegde Endowment Lecture’ has been instituted at the Department of Mathematics, UoM, by his brother, S. V. Gangaiah Hegde.
