Mysore/Mysuru: A two-day meeting with Project Directors of all the Classical Language Centres was held at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru on Sept. 24 and 25. T.S. Nagabharana, Chairman, Kannada Development Authority, Bengaluru, was the special invitee. He put forward many ideas and gave suggestions for the progress of classical languages.
Prof. R.V.S. Sundaram, formerly of University of Mysore, present as a subject expert, spoke about the aims and objectives of classical languages.
Dr. Narayan Kumar Choudhary, Assistant Director (Administration), CIIL, assured to extend support for development of classical language centres.
Project Directors (PD) of all Classical Language Centres Prof. B. Shivarama Shetty, PD, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK); Prof. M. Munirathnam Naidu, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu (CESCT), Nellore, Andhra Pradesh; Prof. Basanta Kumar Panda, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Oriya (CESCO), Bhuvaneshwar, Orissa; and Prof. Pavithran Thavara, PD, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Malayalam (CESCM), Tirur, Kerala were present.
They had discussions with special invitees and subject experts and faculties of CIIL and prepared roadmap for the future activities of classical centres under the guidance of Prof. D.G. Rao, Director, CIIL and Prof. P.R. Dharmesh Fernandez, Deputy Director of CIIL and Head, Classical Languages.
For the functioning of all the activities of classical language centres, a Classical Language Cell (CLC) has been established. It will function from CIIL and this would coordinate the academic and administration activities of all the Classical Language Centres located in different parts of the country.
Prof. D.G. Rao, who is the Nodal Officer for all Classical Language Centres, recalled the efforts taken in the establishment of Classical Language Centres and also appointment of Project Directors, academic and administration staff.
He said that a common road map is the need of the hour for the classical languages as that will pave the way for academic achievements of the centres. He also remembered the help of Central and State Governments during the launching of centres in the respective States.
Prof. Dharmesh Fernandez welcomed. Prof. Munirathnam Naidu, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu, proposed a vote of thanks.
