Promote Swachh River Cauvery

July 20, 2024

Sir,

This refers to the photo caption titled ‘Fresh Water & Dirty Plastic’ in Star of Mysore dated July 18. The issue of plastic pollution in the River Cauvery is neither new nor unknown. As the river flows downstream from the KRS Dam, it becomes increasingly polluted due to the actions of tourists and various entities along its banks. The primary culprits are the shops and restaurants situated at various tourist spots along the river.

One notable example is the Balamuri Falls. A visit to the area after 6 pm reveals a significant amount of non-biodegradable waste dumped near the old boating steps. According to Google, the name ‘Cauvery’ literally means ‘one who brings abundance.’ Let’s not pollute the abundance it provides in the form of drinking water, irrigation and support for flora and fauna.

Swachh Bharat, Swachh Mysuru — and now, let’s seriously promote Swachh Cauvery.
