Protest against Centre’s policies: Congress to take out mock funeral tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly condemning the rising fuel prices and privatisation moves of the Centre, the Congress will take out a mock funeral of the Union Government in city tomorrow (Feb. 6).

Announcing this at a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday, former MLA M.K. Somashekar said that the mock funeral will commence from Sanskrit Patashala Circle at 10 am and will culminate at the footsteps of Chamundi Hill. Pointing out that replicas of Central Public Sector Undertakings such as Railways, BEML, LIC, HAL and Banks will be carried on a bamboo stretcher as part of the protest, he said that the mock funeral procession will pass through the main thoroughfares before reaching Chamundi Hill footstep, where the ‘last rites’ of the Centre will be conducted.

Accusing the Centre of looting the people by hiking fuel prices on a day-to-day basis, he alleged that the Centre was making Banks out of the reach of the poor by privatisation and merger moves.

Congress leader and former MyLac Chairman  H.A. Venkatesh accused the Centre of trying to enforce monarchy rule instead of strengthening Democracy. Accusing the Centre of taking the country to the brink of disaster, he alleged that the Centre was favouring only big  Corporates and is out to torment the common man through anti-people policies.

BEML Employees Union President Munireddy claimed that the Centre was out to privatise all PSUs in the next few years and the privatisation move of the financially sound BEML is a clear indication of this.

Corporator Shobha Sunil, Congress  leaders Prabhumurthy, Sunil and  Somashekar were present at the press meet.
