Mysuru: Demanding the State Government to release student scholarship, the activists of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) took out a protest rally from Town Hall to Crawford Hall, the administrative office of University of Mysore in the city recently.
The protest rally was launched by garlanding the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Town Hall premises.
The agitators have been staging a sit-in demonstration in front of the main gate of Crawford Hall for the past 15 days.
Deepika, a student said despite staging protest for the past 15 days, there is no response yet from the Varsity authorities.
The State Government which has forced the Dalit students to sit in the streets, will be taught a fitting lesson in the coming days. The Dalits are being merely treated as vote bank and have been deprived of seeking at least minimum facilities, she rued.
Samata Sainik Dal leader Venkatappa demanded the account book on the expenditure related to the grants earmarked for Dalits in the Varsity budget.
Actor-turned-activist Chetan Ahimsa said, the student scholarship helps the students in pursuing their education. They can barely save the amount to become crorepatis. The Varsity authorities should provide scholarship at the earliest. Why is the State Government, which protects the interest of contractors and land mafia, hesitant towards students cause? he questioned.
Dalit activist Harihara Ananda Swamy, DSS Convener Chornahalli Shivanna, Edathore Mahadevaiah, KRS Party leader Nagaraj, Sosale Siddaraju, Somaiah Maleyur and others took part in the protest.
