PSI exam scam: Brother of arrested accused ends life

May 12, 2022

Holenarasipur (Hassan): The elder brother of one of the accused candidate in the PSI exam scam that was unearthed recently, reportedly committed suicide by hanging self at his residence in Gunjevu village, Holenarasipur taluk of Hassan district late on Tuesday night.

The deceased is identified as G.R. Vasu, elder brother of PSI candidate G.R. Manukumar, who has been arrested by the CID which is probing the scam. Manukumar is said to have secured 50th rank in the exam held for recruitment of 545 PSIs. Vasu is said to have borrowed huge sums of money for enabling his younger brother to become a PSI. Vasu may have slipped into depression after learning that his brother had been arrested in connection with the PSI exam scam.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Vasu, who was working as an outsourced employee with the Health Department during COVID crisis, was sacked from his job a couple of months ago with the easing of the pandemic. This also may have driven Vasu to end his life, according to sources.

Court dismisses bail pleas

A Kalaburagi Court yesterday dismissed the bail pleas of all the nine accused candidates in the PSI exam scam. The candidates — Vishal, Hayyali Desai,Sharana Basappa, Rudregowda, Mahantesh Patil, Mallikarjun Patil, Suresh Kategavi, Saddam and Kalidas — who are currently in judicial custody after being arrested by CID, had moved the Court seeking bail. But the Court, which heard the bail pleas, dismissed them as CID had argued that granting bail to the accused may lead to destroying of evidence.
