Mysore/Mysuru: The 90th birthday celebration of musician and retired Professor Pt. Rajeev Taranath will be organised by Pandit Rajeev Taranath Felicitation Trust in Mysuru on Oct. 17.
Sarod Maestro Pt. Rajeev Taranath, a Padma Shri awardee, who was a long-time resident of Bengaluru, is now residing in Mysuru.
An inheritor of multiple cultures, the Kannada world acquired from his illustrious father Pt. Taranath, who shaped the Kannada consciousness in the early 20th century, and the richness of Tamil Culture, endowed by his mother Sumathi Bai, an orator and a writer, who championed the cause of women.
Pt. Taranath was trained in Sarod by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He quit a career in academics and committed himself to sarod.
The felicitation will be held at JSS Women’s College Auditorium in Saraswathipuram at 6.15 pm.
Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, writer Chandrashekar Kambara, musician Faiyaz Khan and Kannada Sahitya Parishat former President Manu Baligar will be the chief guests.
Besides a musical tribute, a felicitation book ‘Swarayana’, edited by Ganesh Amingad and Raghupati Thamankar, will be released on the occasion. A film ‘Pandit Rajeev Taranath — A Life in Music’ by Amshan Kumar willl also be screened.
