Bengaluru: The Department of Pre-University Education has decided to discontinue the combinations which do not attract the required number of students. According to guidelines of the PU Board, the combinations which do not have the required number of students for three year in aggregate, such courses would not be allowed to continue in the colleges.
Speaking to SOM, Karnataka State PU Colleges Lecturers Association President Thimmaiah Parle said that the problems existed in few of the unaided PU colleges owing to dearth of teachers. However, he mentioned that the same was not in aided colleges as the Government released funds and even the fee structure was less compared to unaided colleges. Moreover, students belonging to economically-weaker sections could select the combination of their choice.
He also expressed his concerns over exorbitant fee collection by few colleges depending on the combination offered to the students which hindered the chances of poor students to study the subjects of their choice.
