Mysuru, Oct. 23 (SPN&BS)- In a major crackdown on those indulging in public nuisance, the City Police, who took out ‘Area Domination Drive’ recently, have booked 27 cases under COTPA Act (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003) and four persons for consuming liquor in public.
The simultaneous drive, under the supervision of DCP (Law and Order) R.N. Bindu Mani, was carried out by Saraswathipuram Policemen, Ashokapuram, Krishnaraja, Lakshmipuram, Metagalli and Hebbal Police personnel, in their jurisdiction respectively.
During the drive at K.G. Koppal, Sharadadevi Nagar and Bogadi Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction, Saraswathipuram Police came across persons gulping liquor in open at Bogadi ORR.
Majorly, the people hanging out at tea shops located on the road side were caught smoking cigarette and consuming tobacco products, much to the inconvenience of the public. About 27 smokers were booked for violation of rules and were imposed a fine of Rs. 100 each, totalling Rs. 2,700 under COTPA.
Apart from taking stern action against such elements, the Police also warned the people gathered in groups and troubling the pedestrians.
Police even questioned the suspicious elements at lodges, bar and restaurants and also inspected the vehicles. Besides, it has been decided to keep a tab on Paying Guest (PG) accommodations, by tracking the information regularly on social media groups.
The Police, who patrolled B.M. Sri Nagar, KRS Road and Hebbal Main Road, appealed shopkeepers to wind up business at the stipulated time and cooperate with them in maintenance of law and order. They took some of them involved in illegal activities, into their custody.
The personnel belonging to Anti-Rowdy Squad, City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, Commando and other Police wings took part in the drive.
Lakshmipuram and Ashokapuram Police created awareness among public at the parks, public gatherings and other prominent places, where elders and women regularly gather, about cyber crimes, chain snatching, house-burglary and theft cases.
