R.R. Nagar Assembly by-poll: Congress announces candidate

Bengaluru: The Opposition, Congress party, yesterday announced its candidates for R.R. Nagar Assembly segment by-poll and the election to the Legislative Council seat from South-West (SW) Graduates Constituency.

Congress has fielded H. Kusuma, wife of late IAS Officer D.K. Ravi for R.R. Nagar Assembly segment in Bengaluru City and Ramesh Babu, a JD(S) defector, for S-W Graduates Constituency.

Kusuma, daughter of JD(S) leader Hanumantharayappa and a new entrant to politics, had joined Congress just a couple of days ago, while Ramesh Babu, a former  JD(S) MLC, had joined Congress a few days ago.

Congress has already named former Minister and senior party leader T.B. Jayachandra for the by-poll from Sira Assembly segment in Tumakuru.

Meanwhile, Hanumantharayappa, who is said to be close to KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar, too has quit JD(S) to join Congress, it is learnt. The ruling BJP and JD(S) are yet to announce their party candidates.

While the by-poll to R.R. Nagar and Sira Assembly constituencies is scheduled to take place on Nov. 3, the polls to the four Legislative Council seats is slated for Oct. 28.
