Raaga to feature vocalist Chaitrra Sairam on Saturday

Well-known vocalist Vidu. Chaitrra Sairam will give a Karnatak vocal recital for Raaga on Saturday the 15th at 5.30 pm at Prajna Kuteera, Vishwamanava Double Road, Kuvempunagar, as part of their monthly music programme.

Chaitrra, initiated into Karnatak music at the age of four by her mother Shashikala Prasanna, has inherited a great legacy, with Musician/composer Mysore C. Rangaiah, a disciple of Mysore Vasudevachar,  who was her grandfather.

She grew up in an atmosphere soaked with music under gurus Dr. R.N. Shreelatha in Mysore and Shyamala Venkateshwaran in Chennai. Later on she fine tuned her skills under the popular singer Bombay Jayashree. She has performed with Bombay Jayashree on various platforms both in India and abroad. Ably supported by her Mrudangist husband Vid. Delhi Sairam, Chaitrra has carved a niche for herself in music…be it singing, teaching, lecture demonstrations or workshops across the country and overseas.

Graded ‘A’ in the AIR, she is a first class holder in Vidwat exams conducted by the Government of Karnataka, Diploma in Karnatak Vocal from the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, Chennai and a MS in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Mumbai University. Some of the many sabhas, where she has performed include the famed Madras Music Academy, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, Karthik Fine Arts, all Chennai, Vishaka Music and Dance Academy, Vizag, Ramaseva Mandali, Ananya, Bengaluru, Sri Shanmugananda Hall, Mumbai and Bidaram Krishna Mandiram, Mysuru.

Accomplished veterans Vid. C.N. Thyagarajan on the violin, Vid. A. Radhesh on the mridanga and Vid. Vikram Bharadwaj on the ghata are the accompanying artistes for the concert. The concert as usual will be preceded by a talk on Health and Wellness through Ayurveda and Yoga by Dr. N.V. Krishnamurthy, Director, Prajna Kuteera, from 4.30 pm to 5.15pm.
