Raaga Vaibhava to present Hindustani vocal concert on May 5

Raaga Vaibhava Charitable Trust, Mysuru, came into being seventeen years ago due to the combined efforts of nine culturally oriented citizens of Mysuru with the main object of organising at least four Top Class Music and Dance programmes every year by the best artistes in their particular field. More or less, the Trustees have maintained their enthusiasm in fulfilling their commitment. But, the demands of the Top Class artistes, by way of remuneration and perks have increased more than two-fold over the period. The Trustees have appealed to the culturally oriented connoisseurs of Music and Dance in the city to come forward and render assistance to the Trust, by way of becoming Life Members or otherwise.  

This apart, the current programme on Sunday the 5th of May is a Hindustani vocal music by the well-known Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar accompanied by Pt.  Vyasamurthy Katti on harmonium and Pt. Vishwanath Nakod on tabla, both stalwarts in their chosen domain. The venue is Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha (Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavana, JLB Road).

About the main artiste: Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar, the Maestro from the Mewati Gharana, is an accomplished vocalist of international fame in the twin fields of classical and devotional music. Being of middle age, Panditji is an inspiration to young aspirants of music and he has carved a niche for himself in the vast field of classical and light music. He is actually a role model to the youth in the vast canvas of the classical art.

Naturally, Panditji is the proud recipient of several awards including the one from All India  Radio in 1990. ‘Sur Ratna’ and ‘Pandit Jasraj Puraskar Award’ have also been bagged by him. He has sung in almost all important Music Sabhas of the country. He has forayed into other countries where he has won ardent fans. He is also a well-known composer in addition.

The accompanying artistes, Pandit Vyasamurthy Katti and Pandit Viswanath Nakod are veterans in their chosen field and their versatility and grip on their respective instruments are well- known to the connoisseurs in this part of the country. They will definitely give their best outputs and make the vocal concert by Pt. Abhyankar, a memorable one to cherish for a long time to come.
