Railway Engineer ends life by coming under moving train

Mysore/Mysuru: A Senior Engineer of South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru Division, committed suicide by coming under a moving train at City Railway Station yesterday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhu (45), a native of Chikkajajur village in Chitradurga district, who was serving as a Senior Section Engineer, Mechanical Department, SWR, Mysuru Division and was residing at Gokulam in city.

Prabhu came under the Mysuru-Bagalkot Train at Platform No. 6 of Mysuru City Railway Station.

According to sources, Prabhu had returned to duty after leave. The duty of the section starts at 12.30 pm and ends at 8.30 pm. The incident took place within an hour of him reporting to duty.

Mysuru Railway Police Inspector Ashok and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to his mother, sisters and relatives, who took the body to Chitradurga.

A bachelor, Prabhu had good relationship with his colleagues and was a good worker, Railway officials and his colleagues said.

But the reason for him to take the extreme step is not known even to his family members and colleagues, said the Railway Police, who are investigating.
