Railway Pension Adalats must be result-oriented, say pensioners

Mysuru: Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) conducted a Pension Adalat yesterday at the office of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and the meeting was chaired by DRM Dr. Atul Gupta.

The Adalat was organised to look into the grievances of retired Railway employees and family pensioners.

Senior Divisional Personal Officer Prashant Mastiholi, Divisional Finance Manager Nanjunda, Bank representatives and members of Pensioners Association were present.

At the meeting, pensioners called upon authorities to conduct result-oriented Pension Adalats. A representative of the Railway Pensioners’ Welfare Association said that some of the cases were long-pending and this includes the revision of the Pension Payment Orders (PPO).

The order for revising the PPO for implementation of the 7th Pay Commission was issued by the Government of India during May 2017, said the Association.

DRM Atul Gupta said that the exercise was result-oriented as a majority of the complaints were resolved on the spot.

On issuing the revised PPOs, he said that the matter has been taken up with the Western Railways, which was processing the list and had generated nearly 2,500 PPOs.

In the pension Adalat, 20 cases were registered, of which 12 were resolved on the spot and two partially cleared. The remaining were being scrutinised and the issue was expected to be sorted out at the earliest, according to the officials.

MOBILISING HUMAN RESOURCES

The Mysuru Division of the SWR will re-employ retired officials in a bid to overcome scarcity of trained manpower in critical areas. This is part of the policy of the Indian Railways to re-engage retired employees for critical works till new recruits are deployed and trained. Railway officials said that 75 retired employees are likely to be recruited to tide over manpower shortage. The re-engagement entails evaluation of the applications by a Committee, which will ascertain the suitability of the person for the vacancy. As per the notification issued, the re-engagement will be in the accounts, commercial, medical and personnel departments.
