Rain gives break for Vijayadashami

Mysuru: The heavy rains which pounded the city for most of the week, however gave a break for yesterday’s Jumboo Savari procession, much to the delight of thousands of people who had gathered along the 5km procession route.

Although the clouds loomed large over the city since morning, it scattered for sometime giving a huge relief to everyone.

However, the cloud began to gather once again at about 3.30 pm, when CM Siddharamaiah instructed the authorities to speed up the procession march. There was no rain and Siddharamaiah, accompanied by District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and other Ministers, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar showered flowers on the idol of  Goddess Chamundeshwari which was carried by howdah elephant Arjuna at around 5 pm.

Arjuna, carrying the 750kg Golden Howdah, was accompanied by other Dasara elephants, bringing alive the royal tradition of the erstwhile Mysuru rulers.
