Mysuru: More rains are predicted in the coming three to four days. The city has been experiencing rains from Saturday night and the downpour continued from Sunday evening. The rainfall disrupted normal life as it continued to pour the whole of last night and this morning.
Naganahalli Organic Farming Research Station Nodal Officer Dr. C. Govindaraju speaking to SOM, here today said, “The rainfall on Saturday night was 7.2 mm and on Sunday it was 10 mm. The downpour will continue for another three to four days.”
Asked whether it was the cloud seeding effect, he said, “This is more a cyclonic effect but not due to cyclone according to the Indian Meterological Department. However, the cloud seeding is going on and parts of Mandya, Malavalli and Maddur are experiencing rains due to cloud seeding.”
Bengaluru is also experiencing heavy rains since the last two or three days and hence, the cloud seeding has not yet taken place there, he added.
Will the KRS be full? Dr. Govindaraju’s reply was that it should rain heavily in Bagamandala in Kodagu — the source of river Cauvery. There should be non-stop rain for at least a week and only then will KRS get filled to the brim. “We have predicted that if there is 5 inches of rainfall in Bagamandala then the water level in KRS increases by one foot. Hence, we need to have 50 to 60 inches of rainfall for the water level to cross 100 feet mark,” said Dr. Govindaraju.
However, there are more rains awaited in the month of September and October when the North-East rainfall occurs. Once, it rains in these two months then KRS will be full, he predicted.
