Mysuru: Marking the 90th birth anniversary of Matinee Idol Dr. Rajkumar, a musical programme ‘Raja Sambhrama’ was organised by Dr. Rajkumar Musical Group at Jaganmohan Palace here on Saturday. Popular songs of Raj movies like ‘Ragavo Anuragavo’ from ‘Yarivanu’, ‘Shravanamasa Bandhaga’ from ‘Shravana Banthu’, ‘Thamnam Thamnam’ from ‘Yeradu Kanasu’, ‘Nagu Nagutha’ from ‘Bangarada Manushya’ covering over 20 hit numbers were sung by Jayaram, Sarvamangala, Charan, Ramyasri, Prakruti, Ramprasad and Balaraj. Speaking on the occasion Senior actor Srinath recalled his association with Rajkumar.
He praised Rajkumar, who used to get in fully into the shoes of the character being essayed to present a natural behaviour. He opined that the devotional songs sung by Rajkumar would surely evoke divinity in any listener. He regretted that Kannada medium schools were drawing little response which could pose a danger one day for the existence of Kannada.
Sri Ilai Alwar Swamiji of Melukote graced the occasion. Dr. Raj’s relatives S.A. Govindaraj, Lakshmi Govindaraj, Film Producer S.A. Srinivas, Theatre artiste Rajashekar Kadamba, Mike Chandru and others were present.
