Mysuru: The 26th ‘Rajiv Jyothi’ Yatra aimed at spreading the peace message of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, got a warm welcome in city yesterday.
The ‘Jyothi,’ which arrived from Bengaluru, was received by a host of Congress leaders at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Palace North Gate. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vasu said that Rajiv Gandhi was one of the most able administrators of the country and was a youth icon.
Pointing out that Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister was responsible for digital revolution in the country, Vasu said that it was Rajiv Gandhi, who made the youth take part in the electoral process by lowering the age of young voters to 18 from 21.
Vasu also highlighted the other achievements of Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister.
Nanjangud MLA Kalale Keshavamurthy, City Congress President R. Murthy, District President Dr. B.J. Vijayakumar, ZAK Chairperson Mallige Veeresh, KEA Chairman Siddaraju, Corporator Shivmadu, Ex-Corporator Shivanna, MUDA Member Bhaskar L. Gowda, MUDA Chairman D. Dhruvakumar and other leaders were present.
The Yatra later proceeded to Nanjangud and halted at Chamarajanagar for the night.
The Yatra, which left Chamarajanagar this morning, will pass through Sathyamangala and reaches Sriperumbudur on May 21.
