Plea to scrap four proposed labour codes
Mysuru: Veteran Trade Union leader and National Vice-President of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) H.R. Sheshadri has criticised the four labour codes, which are proposed to be implemented in future by the Central Government. He termed them as anti-labour and demanded that the Government should refrain from implementing them.
Speaking at a function organised by several Trade Unions of city like AIUTUC, AITUC, CITU and others to celebrate May Day at Gandhi Square in the city yesterday, the members of these Unions took out a rally through the main streets of the city.
“The Central Government is more corporate-friendly than labour-friendly. The four labour codes proposed to be implemented by the Centre — the code of wages, the industrial relation code, the occupational safety, health working conditions code and also the social security code — are detrimental to the rights and security of labour class. It is aimed at depriving the workers’ rights and weakening the labour movement by snatching their democratic rights,” he said.
Expressing his concern over the system of outsourcing which deprives workers facilities like PF, ESI and holidays, Sheshadri said that both the State and the Central Governments are claiming that they are giving several facilities to the working class even as facts reveal the opposite.
“All India United Trade Union Centre is organising a nationwide protest on May 20 demanding implementation of workers’ demands and appealed all workers to participate in the protest without fail. If workers don’t unite and fight against the anti-labour policies, we have to face serious consequences in future,” he warned.
CITU Secretary Balajirao, AIUTUC State Vice-President Pramoda Devi, AICCTU District President Chowdalli Javarappa and others participated.
