December 2, 2018

Mysuru: The Epic Ramayana has influenced thousands of writers across the world and has left a stamp in the literary world, said Linguistic Scholar Dr. T.V. Venkatachala Shastry.

He was speaking after releasing ‘Ramavatara’ (Volume 1 and 2), complete works of Valmiki Ramayana, written by Prof. V. Narahari, at a function jointly organised by Savigannada Hoysala Sangha and Mahima Prakashana at the Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) on JLB Road in city recently.

In a joint study conducted by Central Sahitya Academy and France Sahitya Academy, it was learnt that Ramayana had inspired thousands of works in the world.

Including Islamic and Persian countries, in nearly 25 countries Ramayana has been used as a base for the  stories, he said.

According to the statistics available decades ago, more than 1,000 Ramayana influenced works have been created. In the 22 Indian languages, 6,000 works are based on Ramayana, he added.

Prof. Narahari, who has written  ‘Ramavatara,’ is undoubtedly a great poet. His work has even surpassed Kumara Vyasa’s Bharata. He has drawn attention to language, situations, characters and ideas, he said.
