‘Rangavalli Rangasambhrama’ begins

Mysuru: There was a festive atmosphere at the Kalamandira premises as members of amateur theatre groups had converged at the venue to watch the play ‘Chitrapata’ staged by Samasthi Theatre Group from Bengaluru on the opening day of three-day theatre festival ‘Rangavalli Rangasambhrama’ organised by city-based amateur theatre group Rangavalli.

Yesterday’s play witnessed more than 300 people watching the play based on post coronation of Lord Rama as the King of Ayodhya.

Earlier, the three-day theatre festival was inaugurated by renowned theatre personality Dr. Vijayamma at a function held at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the society is living in a period were people feared expressing their opinions in an open atmosphere as many forces were working together to curb an individual’s freedom to express himself/herself.

Stating that theatre could be an excellent platform for one to express themselves, Dr. Vijayamma added that youths must utilise theatre as a medium to highlight the issues faced by the society.

Today’s event will feature a fusion rock show by ‘Naavu’ a city-based music band at 4.30 pm followed by staging of play ‘Vaalivadhe’ by Gajanana Yuvaka Mandala of Sheshagiri, Haveri district.
