Mysuru: A city Court has sentenced a 27-year old man to 7-year imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 11,000 for raping a 20-year-old girl on the promise of marrying her.
27-year-old Santosh of Siddalingapura in the taluk is the one who was sentenced. Santosh, a mason by profession, befriended the girl who lived in his neighbourhood at Siddalingapura.
Santosh after promising of marrying her, took her to Kengal in Channapatna taluk where he raped her at a secluded place close to a plant nursery on Aug.13, 2012.
As Santosh refused to marry her, the victim lodged a complaint with Udayagiri Police. The Police after conducting investigation, submitted the charge-sheet against Santosh in the Court.
The Seventh Additional District and Sessions Court judge who heard the case yesterday sentenced Santosh. Public Prosecutor Mahantappa argued on behalf of the State.
