Rare black leopard injured in territorial fight

March 21, 2018

The rare male black leopard at Nagarahole (Kabini Backwaters) has been badly injured below its eyes. Forest Department officials said that the leopard might have been injured during a territorial fight with another leopard.

The fight has resulted in a deep gash wound just below the left eye of the six-year-old feline. Officials said that the leopard that fought against this black leopard would have swiped its face with its sharp claws, pulling out the skin. The injured leopard was spotted resting near a bush at Beesuluvaadi Lake and K.V. Tank and officials said that it might have been injured in the same area. They said that the black leopard has been living in the Kabini Backwater territory since 2014.

This particular leopard has four female partners spread across its territory.
