Mysore/Mysuru: Licensed luggage porters and contractual house-keeping employees at Mysuru Railway Station are among the worst affected daily wage earners because of COVID-19 pandemic prompting a country-wide lockdown with total suspension of passenger-carrying trains across India.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, Mysuru Division Railway Officers’ Association has already distributed over 300 ration kits on different occasions in the last one month to these people in financial distress.
Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru Division, who is leading the campaign to support this vulnerable group of labourers in the unorganised sector, had made a fervent appeal to philanthropic organisations, NGOs and other social welfare groups to join hands in its efforts to render some support till the situation becomes normal.
In continuation of its endeavour to help the marginalised sector, Mysuru Division teamed up with a few individuals from corporate world, Officers from Railway Workshop led by Chief Workshop Manager, P. Srinivasu and Officers from Construction Wing of the Railways to provide a little respite by donating about 85 ration kits to the licensed luggage porters and house-keeping staff working in Mysuru Railway Station.
The DRM has thanked the team for this noble gesture which has come as a big relief to these economically weaker section of the society, according to a press release from Priya Shetty, Divisional Commercial Manager & PRO.
