RBI Note Mudran premises to be ‘prohibited area’

Mysuru: The entire area of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), including the residential quarters for staff, situated in Metagalli will be declared as ‘prohibitory area’ and will be barred for general public.

BRBNMPL is a subsidiary of Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  which prints currency notes.

The District Administration has written a letter to the State Government seeking to declare BRBNMPL premises as ‘prohibitory area’ under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. The move comes after a series of burglaries and thefts were reported at BRBNMPL residential quarters and also the CISF men nabbing three sandalwood smugglers in the campus a few months ago.

Taking note of the problem, BRBNMPL General Manager, City Police Chief and the Tahsildar had submitted a report to the District Administration suggesting that the road connecting Belavatha village and Belagola Industrial Area, passing through BRBNMPL campus be closed. Buffer zone demanded: On Tuesday, BRBNMPL General Manager H.S. Thakur Desai held a meeting with DC D. Randeep in this regard.

Thakur said the area needs a buffer zone for security reasons. He said that a lot of private buildings were coming up adjacent to the campus, though it was stated that no buildings would come up near the unit when the contract was signed with KIADB, and added that there were about 40 houses constructed very close to the compound of BRBNMPL.
