Red Zone alert: Onus is on site developers

Sir,

I am surprised that after so many years of Mysore Airport being operational and with regular flights, the Airport Director had to issue this warning or a public advisory cautioning against unauthorised constructions, stating that strict height restrictions apply to buildings in the area that comes under the Red Zone.

I am sure that the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) or the respective Urban Local Body (ULB) are well aware of this restriction, as they are the authorities responsible for scrutinising and approving the drawings for any new construction.

It is the duty of the developer to obtain clearance from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for any building that exceeds the minimum height specified in the Government of India Gazette Notification GSR 751(E), regarding the construction within a 56-km radius of the Airport.

The only reason the current Director of Mysore Airport has made a public announcement is that construction is reportedly taking place within the Red Zone.

If any such constructions are underway that exceed the prescribed height limits, even if they are not in the direct line of take-off and landing, the works must be stopped immediately. Action should also be taken against the officials who sanctioned and approved the project.
