Rejuvenated Thippayanakere inaugurated

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep and Meritor Inc. CEO and President Jay Craig inaugurated the rejuvenated Thippayanakere Lake on the Nanjungud-Ooty Outer Ring Road by unveiling a plaque.

Speaking on the occasion, Randeep said that the lake had completely dried up and it was due to the initiative of Automotive Axles that the Thippayanakere was rejuvenated at a cost Rs. 27 lakh under its Corporate Social Responsibility wing.

The lake is completely restored and it is full of water now with a variety of birds around the serene environs.

There are 25 such lakes in the city, which needs to be rejuvenated, as land sharks have encroached upon many of them.

In order to prevent this situation, the District Administration has approached big companies like Infosys, L&T, RBI and corporates like CII to join hands for lake restoration, the DC said.

Once the lakes are rejuvenated, then the borewells will get recharged, groundwater level will increase and the lake waters can be used even for agriculture activities. Because of the opening of the channels that were blocked due to silt, there was a free flow of water into the Kukkarahalli Lake, said Randeep.

Meritor Inc.’s Joseph, Automotive Axle Managing Director N.P. Thimmaiah, President and Director N. Muthukumar, District Industries Centre Joint Director Ramakrishna Gowda and others were present on the occasion.
