‘Research should aid decision-making process’

May 24, 2018

Mysuru: “Award of Ph.D is not an end of academic research journey, it is the beginning to support the decision-makers in the process extending authenticate information,” observed Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD), Mysuru.

He was speaking during the inauguration of the workshop on ‘How to succeed through Ph.D. Journey?’ at SDM-IMD  here recently.

Dr. Parasuraman opined that in the current trend of ‘Publish or Perish,’ the research output should see the day of light as articles in the journal of repute. Researchers should take the support of technological tools and rich resources available in the electronic database in bringing the quality research.

Expressing his concern on quality of research, the key resource person of the workshop Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Professor of Operations, SDM-IMD,  said that although the number of Ph.D degrees awarded in the country has gone up in the recent times, the quality of research has notably gone down.

Hence, it is essential that the researchers focus on quality right from the beginning to ensure a valuable output from the Ph.D programme. Further, the research would be considered if the research output helps in public policy making, and contributes to society by enabling best practices.

The workshop focused on introducing the research etiquettes, identification of topics, research design and carrying out literature review.

Research scholars from different Universities in Karnataka and neighbouring States participated in the workshop.

Dr. M.V. Sunil, Coordinator and Resource Person of the workshop, faculty members and staff present during the inaugural session.
