Residents oppose MCC’s decision to construct houses for Pourakarmikas at Malalawadi

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had decided to construct houses for Pourakarmikas at Malalawadi in city. In that context, when Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Corporators visited Malalawadi yesterday for an inspection, they were allegedly taken to task by the local residents who claimed the decision of MCC as irrational and incorrect.

The residents pointed out that the area was already in a bad condition with frequent inundation whenever it rains with gutter water entering the houses. They said that a cemetery was also nearby with burning of corpses emanating obnoxious smell. They further said that the basic infrastructure for the existing residents should be improved.

Hence, they questioned the rationale behind constructing houses for Pourakarmikas in the area who also will be forced to live in a wretched ambience thus creating another slum.

The residents suggested that houses for Pourakarmikas could be constructed at Ramabainagar.

Continuing, they sought better amenities in the Jayanagar Park nearby which is frequented by their children.

With no way out as opposition was mounting alarmingly, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath said that the topic of building houses for Pourakarmikas in Ramabainagar would be discussed in the Council.

Dy. Mayor Shafi Ahmed, Corporators B.V. Manjunath, SBM Manju, Prema Shankaregowda, Shobha Sunil and others were present.
