Residents protest over newly opened bar and restaurant

  • MCC & Excise Department claim ignorance
  • MLA Nagendra to intensify stir

Mysuru: Over 500 residents of Lakshmikanthanagar, Subramanyanagar, Hebbal 2nd stage and HUDCO Layout staged a vociferous protest led by MLA L. Nagendra in front of Chitra Residency in Hebbal 2nd stage here on Sunday where a new bar and restaurant was opened recently.

The protesters contended that there is a park in front of the building where many walkers visit every day and Priyadarshini School is located nearby. They alleged that they had complained to MCC and Excise Department long back over the issue but surprisingly both had replied that no licence had been issued to open a bar at that place.

Nagendra said that he would not allow the bar and restaurant to function at that place as it is deemed illegal. He emphasised that he would report the matter to the Excise Minister and Chief Minister questioning the rationale behind issuing a licence if it is given. He assured to intensify the stir in the coming days and possibly extend to near DC’s office and also in front of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.

The bar which was inaugurated yesterday remained closed today possibly with an inkling that a protest was due this morning.

Corporators Lakshmi, Satish, Subbaiah, Ramesh, Prema Shankaregowda, Pramila Bharat, Vedavati, Sridhar, former Deputy Mayor Mahadevappa, former Corporator Shivanna, local leaders Jayappa, Triveni Jayappa, Sharadabai, Kirangowda, Nandish, Jagadish and others participated in  the protest.
