Mysuru:  K.M. Chandregowda Sneha Balaga had organised a function at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangothri here yesterday to felicitate retired senior KAS officer   K.M. Chandregowda.

Legal Expert Prof. C.K.N. Raja released a facilitatory volume ‘Aptha’ edited by Purigali  Muradesha Murthy.

Speaking on the occasion, C.K.N. Raja lauded Chandregowda as an honest officer in the corrupt bureaucracy.

He said that Chandregowda was gifted with four virtues — honesty, integrity, transparency and discipline — which enabled him to take on the ‘Kurukshetra’ of Government service who falls in line with Sir M. Visvesvaraya and Thipperudraiah.

Continuing, Raja recalled that Chandregowda was able to take Government service to door steps of people like as MUDA Secretary providing possession certificate to needy people who were waiting for months.

He added that Chandregowda’s wife Indumati, a science graduate, was also a backbone for the former’s success.

Raja further said that the book ‘Aptha’ throws light on various incidents in Chandregowda’s life like the latter’s father Manchegowda feeling unhappy on Chandregowda buying a tiller claiming that it would take away the livelihood of many labourers.

Speaking on the occasion, writer and humorist Prof. M. Krishnegowda opined that a Government officer should treat ‘power’ as a ‘coat’ to be worn only on certain occasions. He added that Chandregowda followed that principle without misusing power.

Ridiculing the present Government service, Prof. Krishnegowda said that writer late Beechi had made fun of Government work where employees performed irrational work like issuing a birth certificate instead of death certificate.

Chandregowda and his wife were felicitated on the occasion.

Maharaja’s College retired Principal Kalachannegowda, journalist Amshi Prasannakumar, Jana Chetana Trust President Prasanna N. Gowda, Srikant of DEED organisation and others were present during the programme.
