Retired MCC Commissioner gets extortion call from fake IT officer

An incident of a person, claiming to be the Commissioner of the Income Tax (IT) Department, calling a retired KAS officer over the phone and demanding Rs. 10 lakh to close a ‘case’ has been reported in city.

Retired Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, who is now the Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, in a complaint lodged at Alanahalli Police Station, has stated that one Prakash Barki, claiming to be an IT Commissioner, has been calling him over the phone since four days and demanding Rs. 10 lakh to close a ‘case’ based on a complaint that he has taken up for investigation.

The Police, who have taken up the case, are investigating.
