Returning Officer seeks fair and free poll

Returning Officer Jagadeesh is seen addressing a meeting in connection with Nanjangud by-polls in the town yesterday.

With model code of conduct in force in the town on account of Assembly byelection, Returning Officer Jagadeesh and Assistant Returning Officer M. Dayanand have asked all political leaders and candidates to strictly abide by the code of conduct and warned of notice and legal action against violators.

At a  meeting held with party leaders and candidates at the taluk office here yesterday, the Returning Officer said that the candidates should not be in possession of more than Rs. 50,000 in cash and asked the candidates not to make election speeches venting personal animosity or by using unparliamentary language.

He asked them not to seek votes at religious places. He said that permission was needed to print leaflets, erect banners and stick handbills. He added that candidates can use any number of vehicles but only with prior permission.
