Rev. Fr. M.J. Benedict passes away

Mysuru: Rev. Fr. M.J. Benedict (76) passed away here yesterday at 4 pm owing to a massive cardiac arrest.  

Born in Mysore on March 3, 1942, he studied at St. Philomena’s High School, St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Mysore and St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore. He was ordained Priest on                                   April  6, 1966.

As a Priest of the Diocese of Mysore, he had served as Secretary to the late Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathias Fernandes and as Parish Priest at Mandya, Our Lady of the Poor, Mysore, Gundulpet, Sandanapalya and Polibetta.  During the last few years, he had been residing at Catholic Centre in city.

He was a voracious reader and as a dedicated priest was simple, humble, unassuming and very helpful to everyone.

His body will be kept at Prashantha Nilaya in Bannimantap on Sunday (August 6) between 8 am and 1.30 pm and at St. Joseph’s Cathedral from 2 pm. The funeral mass will be held at 3.30 pm in the same Church and the mortal remains will be interred at Roman Catholic Cemetery in Gandhinagar here soon after the mass.
