Rider killed as truck carrying road roller hits bike

Mysuru: A two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot while the pillion rider sustained injuries when a truck carrying a road roller hit the bike they were riding on Bogadi-Gaddige Road here yesterday evening. Following the accident, the road roller fell from the truck on the road.

While the deceased has been identified as Satish (27), son of Thimmanayaka of K. Belthur village in H.D. Kote taluk, the injured pillion rider his 13-year-old Shivu, son of deceased Satish’s sister. Shivu has been admitted to K.R. Hospital.

Satish, a mason by profession, who had gone to his sister’s house at Sargur, had brought her son along with him to Mysuru. While they were on their way to Sargur, the truck carrying the road roller, coming towards Mysuru, hit the bike near DMG Halli Gate on Bogadi-Gaddige Road. Satish, who sustained serious injuries died on the spot while Shivu was rushed to K.R. Hospital.

As the truck moved in a haphazard manner soon after hitting the bike, the road roller placed on the truck fell on the road. As there were no vehicles or people nearby, when the road roller fell, a major mishap was averted.

Following the accident, public and relatives of deceased Satish staged a protest by blocking the road and alleged that frequent accidents were taking place on this narrow stretch and despite urging to widen the road many times, no steps were taken in this regard.

The protestors demanded on spot compensation and refused to shift Satish’s body besides demanding H.D. Kote MLA arrive at the spot. Later, Police convinced the protestors to call off the stir as it was disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to the public.

Later, the Police shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary and cleared road roller. The Police, who took the truck driver into custody, have subjected him to medical tests. A case has been registered at Jayapura Police Station.
