Rider killed, bike gutted in fire after lorry collides

Hunsur: A two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot, when a lorry collided head on with the bike near Kal Betta on Hunsur-Madikeri Highway yesterday evening. Soon after the collision, the bike reportedly caught fire and was completely gutted in the fire.

The deceased rider has been identified as B.P. Muthanna, son of B.A. Praveen and a resident of Kalkadu village in Madikeri taluk of Kodagu district.

Yesterday at about 5.30 pm, Muthanna was proceeding on his bike (KA-12-L-1071) from Virajpet towards Hunsur, when the lorry (KA-12-A-9971), which was coming in the opposite direction rammed into the bike killing Muthanna on the spot. Due to the impact, the petrol tank of the bike broke opened and the petrol caught fire. By the time the fire extinguishing vehicle reached the spot, the bike was completely gutted.

Traffic was disrupted for some time on the busy Highway. Hunsur Rural Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, shifted the body to Hunsur General Hospital Mortuary, seized both the vehicles and have registered a case.
