‘Rights of women listed in Constitution should be properly utilised’

Mysuru: Karnataka State Anti-Women Harassment Forum had organised an ‘Women-Politics-New avenues; In and out of election’ at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises here recently.

Inaugurating the programme by beating a ‘Kanjira,’ former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik opined that the Indian Constitution has provided enough rights for women who should claim them. She advised women to become educated and develop an inquisitive nature. She observed that harassment of women was still rampant in rural areas and regretted that many of the cases go under wraps.

Referring to today’s scenario, Lalitha Naik opined that politics was just a money-making venture with no ethics. She asked the Government to shun superstitions and instil creative thoughts among people.

She further asked the representatives of people to stop visiting temples and devote time for public service. Recalling an incident, she said that only four passengers were with her in a railway compartment on a journey on Lunar Eclipse day regretting on the gravity of superstitions in society.

Retried Professor of University of Mysore (UoM) M. Umapathy spoke on reservation  for women.

Nandini Jayaram of Raitha Sangha, women Activists Rati Rao, Malavika Gubbivani and others were present.
